John Bedford Lloyd was a pre-med student at Williams College in Massachusetts when a friend talked him into performing in a school production of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest." The acting bug bit hard; he switched his major, began studying English, and participated in a number of plays. He went on to graduate from the distinguished School of Drama at Yale University, and then promptly moved to New York City to start his professional acting career. Lloyd has split time between the theater, television, and feature films, but his imposing 6' 5" frame and hard-edged features keep him cast mostly in formidable, villainous roles. He landed a prominent television role in 1985 on the short-lived CBS dramedy "Hometown," an adaptation of the baby-boomer reunion film "The Big Chill." On the big screen, he is probably best known for his supporting role as Jammer Willis in the 1989 underwater sci-fi flick "The Abyss," written and directed by James Cameron. He is married and has two children with fellow Broadway and screen actor Anne Twomey.
